I love portrait sessions, especially with people like Kim. The hardest part was capturing her with a straight face, since we were laughing most of the time. I love her space, too - it’s calm, warm, and smells great. If you need a facial, you have to call this woman!

My friend Coleen Elgin Drew contacted me about a book project she’s working on with author John Levy. After a long drive up a very windy and beautiful road into Marin, I met up with Coleen and John. John wrote a book called “Inherited Wealth: Opportunities and Dilemmas”, and Coleen needed a photo for the cover. What better model for the cover than the author’s own hand. Coleen and John were both joys to work with, and I wish him much success on his book!

I’m celebrating Earth Day by photographing EcoTuesday at the W Hotel (I’m also riding my bike to work - but hey, doing some event photography for my friends at EcoTuesday will be a blast). EcoTuesday is a networking event for business leaders interested in sustainability. I’ll post a few photos from the event tomorrow night.

I remember celebrating Earth Day in high school by planting trees on a golf course. Looking back, this seems more like a way for a business to get free labor for landscaping, but it was fun at the time. I’m just back from this incredible conference in Chicago, called Strictly Business 2 put on by ASMP, which was all about the business of photography. Since the tag line for the conference was “Put your camera down and focus on your business”, I didn’t even bring my camera. For an event photographer like me, that was a weird experience, but it made me not hide behind my camera, be confident, and introduce myself to a lot of people. (more…)

I traveled to Boston today for an event I’m photographing this weekend, and I had the best flight imaginable. I normally get pretty antsy after the first few hours and can’t wait to get off the plane. Invariably I check my watch twenty times only to see that 5 minutes have past. This flight was perfect though–a whole row to myself, watching an episode of The Office I hadn’t seen before, and eating gummy bears.

Best flight ever!
